Since the beginning of this year, the steel industry has proactively adapted to changes in demand, overcome the severe challenges of a complex external environment, and shouldered the heavy tasks of domestic structural transformation. While achieving a year-on-year improvement in economic performance, the industry still faces difficulties such as supply outstripping demand, fluctuating and declining steel prices, and a challenging export environment. Sustained efforts are required to continue driving the industry toward stable and positive development.
On April 29, the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) held its Q1 2025 press conference in Beijing. Jiang Wei, Deputy Secretary of the CISA Party Committee, Vice Chairman, and Secretary-General, presented the operational status of the steel industry, the challenges it faces, and key areas of focus. He emphasized the need to maintain resilience, build consensus, and actively address risks and challenges. By ensuring steady growth in economic performance and high-quality development, the industry can counteract external uncertainties and achieve sustained progress.
Attendees at the press conference included Shi Hongwei, CISA Deputy Secretary-General and Director of the Market Research Department; Chen Yuqian, Deputy Secretary-General and Director of the Industrial Operations Department; Feng Chao, Deputy Secretary-General and Director of the Technology and Environmental Protection Department; and Wang Bin, Director of the Planning and Development Department. They addressed questions from reporters on topics such as international trade challenges, shifts in steel demand, the steel industry’s entry into the carbon market, digital transformation, and capacity governance. Shen Yongliang, Deputy Director of CISA’s General Office, moderated the event. Journalists from China Metallurgical News, World Metals Guide, and China Industrial News attended the conference.
